PACKING DOCUMENTS FOR YOUR QUICK RUN BAG (QRB)
While most of the emergency documents checking list is self-explanatory, here are some additional tips when packing documents into your Quick Run Bag:
* Waterproof case. Consider waterproof case that will hold all your key documents even if your QRB is waterproof.
* Passport/ Personal ID. Check for expiration dates to be valid for at least 6 months for the time you plan leaving the area visited.
Tip: For biometric passports or documents with data chips you may want to consider RFID blocking sleeve or wallet.
* Organization ID will be useful for most contexts, but depending on sensitivities of context, you may need to be careful where you display it and where not.
* Travel permits. You have to clarify in advance what travel permits you require for areas you might need to access in emergency. This may include visas or other types of permits. Have travel permits actually packed in QRB, so you do not need to look for key documents in case you need to leave quickly in emergency.
* Medical/ vaccination certificates. Some countries may require specific medical and/or vaccination certificates to grant you access. Document requirements should be researched in advanced, and considered when packing.
* Driver’s license. Obviously international driver’s license would be preferred if you are packing for outside of home country, but if you don’t have one, take domestic one. It might still be honored as valid driver’s license in certain situations, or even serve as additional/alternative identification.
* Spare passport photos. Always good idea to carry, as ready photos may aid to speed up official processes in emergencies, e.g. when acquiring new visa or restoring lost ID.
* Copies of key documents. Always keep photo copies of your key documents (including permits and visa pages) pre-packed in your QRB. Consider also keeping soft copied (scanned files or photos) of these documents in your email account and smartphone.
Tip: You may want to keep documents and their copies separately, so in case of loosing originals you at least have copies with you.
